Venue Review
Character: Striking, versatile and theatrical modernity.
Funky Features: Spectacular transparent 3-storey glass foyer, enlivened by rotating art displays; theatrical facilities and expert input available.
Location and History
Working with Nicholas Hare Architects, RHWL Architects were the design and delivery architects for the project. Sadler’s Wells has been located in Islington, near Angel, since 1683 with two theatres; Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the Lilian Baylis Studio. Situated a stone’s trow from Angel Tube station, Sadler’s Wells is easily accessible on many major bus routes from Waterloo, Liverpool Street, Euston and Kings Cross stations.
Interior
Sadlers Wells is a brick, glass and steel building which sits within the framework created by the massive planes of the brick exterior walls. Its most immediately striking space is the foyer with its three-storey all-glass façade – a huge window into the theatre – which is regularly used for spectacular displays of art.
Spaces for Hire
Versatility is key to this venue’s appeal. Many possibilities are available at Sadlers Wells. You can use of one of the three theatres with flexible seating or convert a studio into a performance area. Combine the use of these impressive spaces with a cabaret style dinner or specially designed conference room and personalise the occasion with banners and electronic visual displays.
The beauty of Sadlers Wells is its versatility. It hosts an extraordinary array of corporate, personal and performance-based amenities and clients are encouraged to take advantage of Sadlers Wells broad range of in-house facilities such as lighting, costume, sound effects, scenery and backdrops to enhance the theme or mood of an event, whatever its size or objective.
Clients are able to work closely with the theatre’s expert events and technical teams to design an event inspired by their knowledge of theatrical display. The theatre team is happy to bring its creativity to the challenge of organising everything from seminars and dinners to private party performances and team building theatre workshops. The options are vast and Sadler’s Wells is always happy to advise on the best options to create the atmospheric and entertaining presentation you need.
