Location and History

Freemasons Hall has only recently been opened to the public. Since 1775 it has been the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England and a meeting place for the Masonic Lodges in the London area.

Formerly known as the Masonic Peace Memorial, Freemasons Hall is conveniently located in central London on Great Queen Street between Holborn and Covent Garden. Both these stations are on the Piccadilly line and Holborn is also on the central line.

Interior and Spaces for Hire

The Freemasons Hall feels like an undiscovered secret. The grand stone-carved building is famous in its own right after being used as a BBC film location for Spooks and in the film adaptation of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The façade can be light up, allowing guests to experience an even greater ‘wow’ factor.

There are many versatile spaces throughout Freemasons Hall, including conference suites flooded with natural daylight and breakout rooms with antique furniture but the showpiece rooms have to be the Grand Room and Grand Vestibule.

The Grand Room has a brilliant marble-pillared reception area, where there is a cloakroom, catering for an astonishing 1000 people. The Grand Room’s beautiful architecture is best viewed from the sweeping marble staircase with its extraordinary stained glass windows (which can be uplit to dramatic effect). Wooden intricate carved internal doorways frame the hall and the Art Deco starred ceilings and metal carved lights are features to remember. At one end of the room is a wooden and gold figured chest with scripture showing the lodges from past to present.

Masonic bronze carved doors lead into the Grand Vestibule, which can be used in conjunction with the Grand Room or on its own. This room is ideal for conferences or fashion shows. Brilliant gold leaf ceilings reflect down on a huge mosaic floor. The raked seating surrounds the central area and is suitable for up to 1200 with a balcony adding to the impact of this room.

Freemasons Hall is a fantastic versatile listed space that guests won’t forget. Suitable for events or functions such as awards ceremonies, conferences, dinners, fashion shows, meetings, parties, receptions or corporate hospitality.

Capacity:  800 stand-up reception / 350 sit-down dinner / 100-1200 for a meeting.
