Venue Review
Character: Georgian boutique hotel with a unique modern difference.
Funky Features: 70’s lounge-chic cocktail bar, locally sourced organic food, uniquely designed and named bedrooms with en-suite, a stones throw away from the seafront, Grade II listed building.
Location and History
Owned by husband and wife, Chris Edwardes & Amanda Blanch, Blanch house opened in November 2000 and combines excellent service with innovative design in a laid back environment. Located in an unassuming Georgian terrace, just off Brighton’s Kemp Town seafront, you have to ring the bell to enter the Grade II listed building which is spread over five floors and offers 12 en-suite rooms, a 70’s lounge-chic cocktail bar, and a fabulous in-house restaurant.
Chris, former manager of legendary venues such as the Groucho, Atlantic and Pharmacy, sustains an outstanding level of first-class mixology by working with the excellent hotel bar staff to create cocktails which are absolutely worthy of all the accolades and awards, such as Cumquat May, Camomile High Club, God Dram It, Port in a Storm and Pineapple and Chilli Mojitos featuring their fantastic chilli syrup.
Interior
Appearing at first understated, the design penetrates as you pass through from the intimate lounge style bar, into the restaurant which is beautifully light, white and stylish, but without pretension – the same as the menu, which is carefully thought out and changes with the seasons. Where possible, food is organic and sourced locally.
The divine bedrooms each have their own individual style attentively designed by Amanda whose style embraces the sumptuous and unique. Be captivated by, amongst others: ‘Snowstorm’, ‘Boogie Nights’, ‘Perrier Jouet’, ‘Renaissance Room’ . Every room is en-suite with trevi power showers, molton brown toiletries, fogarty goose and duck down duvets and pillows, reylon beds, hairdryers, telephones, isdn lines, flat-screen tv’s and dvd players. You can even arrange a complimentary late check-out where available.
There is also a conference space and complementary services can be tailored to suit your needs such as bookings and access to theatres, bars and clubs or more specialist stuff like a one or two hour cocktail master class, chef’s tips, wine tasting, massage, reflexology etc or even water sports such as fishing, diving and wind surfing.
