Venue Review

Character: Ultra-modern, new rooftop function space on the roof of the National Theatre commanding panoramic views of London.

Funky Features: Ultra-modern structure, ‘blank canvas’ event space, BBQ area, outside terraces, high-specification audio and visual equipment, flexible lighting system, panoramic views of London.

Location and History

Seen from outside, the Deck resembles a glowing cube resting on one of the theatre’s Thames-facing terraces. It is a new roof-top venue at the National Theatre, which is on the South Bank of the Thames, a minute from Waterloo and five by tube from Covent Garden and the West End.

Interior

The Deck has been designed to make the most of its fabulous vantage point; it has a distinctly inside-outside feel, created by the use of translucent materials that allow natural daylight to flood in.  The glazed walls are also retractable, meaning that in warm weather the whole room can be opened out to the decked terrace.

The fresh, modern architecture of The Deck makes it a great blank canvas for any event. The sophisticated lighting system can be used for a variety of effects ranging from basic task-lighting to more dramatic or intimate evening atmospheres.

All of the lights used inside and on the decked terrace of The Deck are low-energy diode fittings, which give a bright light, but reduce energy wastage.

The terrace is perhaps the most enjoyable element of the space, allowing guests to mingle and enjoy intriguing views of the streets and cityscape below.

Spaces for Hire

Open April to the end of October and hired in its entirety, The Deck caters for 120 standing, 100 seated ceremony, 90 for a sit-down dinner. The venue is a great alternative to a registry office and an ideal location from which to hop on a boat for a wedding reception.
