Venue Review
Character: Decadent art deco cocktail bar and restaurant.
Funky Features: Art deco design, opulent bar, saucy cocktails, French and English cuisine.
Location and History
The second incarnation of Beach Blanket Babylon has brought some much-needed glamour to East End’s Bethnal Green Road. The black art deco-inspired designs swirling across the windows promises an enticing mix of studied decadence and hedonistic delight inside. The ground floor features an opulent bar and a 150-seat restaurant while below ground is a more intimate area with dim lighting, circular seats and plush upholstery.
Interior
The restaurant is a blend of French and English cuisine while the cocktails at the bar have been chosen for their saucy titles, a Porn Star Martini being a particular favourite. Like its older brother in Ledbury Road, the East end’s Beach Blanket Babylon is about dramatic lighting, opulent surroundings and classy customers, if you are in search of London’s trendy elite, then you’ll find all the beautiful people here.
Spaces for Hire
Part of the downstairs can be hired or roped off for small parties, while the top floor gallery, (a wondrous blank canvas of a room with tall windows looking out over the city skyline), is more suitable for large events. The staff are more than happy to accommodate any idiosyncratic theme in the gallery, and already in their short life they have hired it out as an art gallery and for a bordello themed party.
