Venue Review
Character: 1920’s supper and cocktail club .
Funky Features: Grade II listed features. Eastern style 1920’s interior, magnificent glass dome, large interior mural, diverse entertainment acts, a stones throw to the seafront.
Location and History
A former mausoleum of the Sassoon family, who were described as the ‘Rothchilds of India’ and were influential in Brighton and Hove at the end of the 19th century, this Grade II listed building was designed in eastern style popular in this period and reminiscent of the nearby Royal Pavilion. It features a magnificent glass dome and was previously converted to a pub before falling into disrepair. In 2006 it was renovated by Chris Edwardes and Amanda Blanch, who recognised its potential glory and turned it into The Hanbury Club; a decadent and eclectic club and venue situated close to seafront in the Kemp Town area of Brighton.
Interior
Thanks to extensive experience in interior and bar design, award winning team Chris and Amanda have created a look and feel of a 1920’s supper club with a rich, plush interior which remains subtle enough to be über stylish.
Contained in one large room with high ceilings that lead your eye up to the glass dome and its captivating interior mural, there is definitely a sense of opulence as the dark floors and furniture are complimented by striking wallpaper and the space enhanced by large, beautiful art deco style mirrors, intimate curved booths and elegant lighting.
The bar gives it that final glamorous edge offering beer, cocktails and an extensive selection of wine and champagne and the overall impact is an alluring one. With the diverse range of post-supper entertainment which includes high quality acts such as burlesque nights, swing, jazz and latin bands, tea parties and film noir themed events, you really can take yourself back to an era of glorious, glamorous grown-up partying.
Spaces for Hire
Private hire is available during the day time and some evenings for events, and occasionally for weekends for conferences, launch parties, photo shoots, fashion shows and private dining.
A comprehensive range of event services are offered and The Hanbury Club are also able to conduct weddings and civil partnerships, drinks receptions/non-catered events.
