Venue Review
Character: A surprising and friendly theatre venue in an excellent central location.
Funky Features: A variety of different spaces, terraces with birds-eye views of Soho, use of the frequently changing set on the main stage, skilled technicians, centrally located in the heart of London and minutes from a handful of tube stations.
Location and History
Soho Theatre couldn’t be any more metropolitan. Located on Dean Street it is currently making a name as ‘the’ place to be in the heart of the West End, handily situated just around the corner from Tottenham Court Road tube station and five to ten minutes walk from Leicester Square, Oxford Circus and Picadilly Circus.
The Theatre has a reputation for presenting groundbreaking and entertaining theatre, a late-night programme of comedy and cabaret and a vibrant talks programme. Soho Theatre’s links with skilled comedians and actors means it can help in find actors to provide an innovative edge to an event.
Interior
Soho Theatre is a friendly, fully lift-accessible venue that offers something different and special in the heart of Soho.
The Theatre is flexible enough to be used for most events. There are four very different spaces as well as two balcony areas, which provide great birds-eye views over the hustle and bustle of the West End. The Theatre also has a preferred list of suppliers and can easily organise lunches, canapé receptions and drinks receptions from its fully licensed bar.
Spaces for Hire
The most unique space for hire is the auditorium itself which has a constantly changing set to meet the needs of the current production. This is enhanced by the in-house technical team, who enable you to take full advantage of the lighting and sound equipment. The auditorium is a modern space with padded bench seating for 140 with additional balconies with barstools. The space is ideal for conferences, filming, press launches, lectures or meetings and rehearsed readings. The space is 11 x 6 meters, air-conditioned and the playing area is dependent upon the current set. Hiring the space includes Front of House and Technical support; stage lighting and sound; use of the Terrace Bar and foyer.
The Studio is a self-contained, flexible space with large, bright windows and black out curtains. The space is suited towards workshops, meetings, corporate events, rehearsed or table readings, performances and rehearsals. The room is 11x9 meters with the playing area dependent upon the seating arrangements for the event and is air-conditioned. Hiring this space includes Front of House and Technical support; stage lighting and sound; use of the third floor foyer. Capacity is 85 in a theatre-style setup or 100 when cleared of seating.
The Seminar Room is an intimate meeting room that is the perfect size for brainstorming and benefits from a large balcony overlooking the heart of the West end. It has a separate waiting area and is perfect for auditions, meetings and small workshops or as a dressing room or green room for projects in the Studio or Theatre. The space is 7x3.5 meters with floor to ceiling windows opening to the terrace as well as a whiteboard with markers. Capacity for the room is 16 in a boardroom-style and 20 in a theatre setup.
The friendly and informal Terrace Bar is also a brilliant clean and bright space with a separate waiting area to hire for small receptions, castings and rehearsals and offers a large balcony with inspiring views over Soho. The space is 4x3 meters with floor to ceiling windows opening onto the terrace and a bar at one end of the room. Capacity for this room is 4-10.
