Venue Review
Character: Cool but homely central London ‘blue sky think space’.
Funky Features: Tree stump coat rack, massage chair and shelves of worldwide kitsch collectibles.
Location and History
It’s a bit ironic that the spaces we choose for company away days or brainstorm sessions are often uninspiring conference or hotel rooms. The Old Laundry was created as the remedy to this blandness and to provide a fresh and funky edge to business meetings and brainstorms by ?What if!, the international innovation specialist.
Interior
The Old Laundry brings a sense of domestic comfort and character to these brainstorming thinking space. Traditional features of the original eighteenth century laundry, such as stone flagged steps, coexist with contemporary halogen lighting and unusual fittings and fixtures in a stylish and uncluttered synthesis of old and new. White brick walls and plain floorboards are softened with simple textiles and colours intended to stimulate but not to distract.
Downstairs in the ‘Emporium’, moveable sofas blend with playful features such as the connect 4, a giant tree stump coat rack, a massage chair and shelves of kitsch collectibles from all over the world. The upstairs ‘Greenhouse’ room - so called because of its glazed ceiling and abundance of potted plants - makes an ideal discussion room. A simple dining area adds to the domestic feel of the room, while more colourful sofas and quirky banana chairs embellish the emphasis on relaxation, comfort and calm.
Spaces for Hire
The Emporium and the Greenhouse are perfect for boardroom meetings, brainstorms and creative innovation meetings. ?Whatif! encourages guests to decorate the walls with their own ideas, allowing for a great deal of personal intervention and direction. A large flat screen TV is provided in both rooms for visual displays. Both spaces can cater for up to 15 people.
Flexibility is key to The Old Laundry’s success. The service is friendly and attentive and features exquisite, home-style catering, always designed to suit individual needs and match the creative atmosphere.
