Location and History

Founded in 1984 on the site of the old Brompton Hospital, this unusual garden centre is on Sydney Street, within equal walking distance of South Kensington and Sloane Square Tube stations and seconds from the King’s Road. The Chelsea Gardener’s credo is that the garden is an essential part of the living space and décor of a London house.

Interior / Spaces for Hire

The Chelsea Gardener can customise its stylish range of spaces to accommodate weddings, birthdays, christenings, receptions, exhibitions, product launches, parties and functions. 

The picturesque villagey entrance of The Chelsea Gardener leads you into the Showroom. This wooden high-beamed rectangular space has a warm organic feel and lends itself well to receptions or parties where music can be played through the surrounding wall speakers. The Showroom can be used as a whole or can be cleared and sectioned off with a separate bar area to suit the needs of an event. Catering equipment can be brought in, if required, and the showroom can be hired in conjunction with the outdoor spaces. Ideal for spring and summer events. Capacity: up to 300 people for a reception / 150 for a sit-down dinner.

The space under the Outside Canopy runs the length of the building and benefits from the beautiful scent of the abundance of plants and flowers within. The space is perfect for a summer banquet or a fashion show and plants can be arranged to provide guests with whatever ‘lushness factor’ they need.

The terrace area is also filled with rows of plants, which is a great space in which to wander with a cocktail and have pre-dinner drinks. A quaint Decked Area with cushioned seating is perfect for small summer gatherings while the The Conservatory is another hidden gem offering a retreat in which to experience tropical and semi-tropical plants.

The outside canopied area, the decked area and the tropical conservatory (by special arrangement) are all versatile spaces and can be used separately or in conjunction with each other. Capacities vary depending on range of spaces that are hired.
